A sense of place: jimmy buffet
Yes, tonight i put the radio on randomly and up pops jimmy.
Changes in attitude,
Changes in latitude,
Nothing remains quite the same.
I heard that song and every other buffet song about 100 times a week at an outdoor eatery where i waitressed one summer. Sometimes humming along, sometimes cursing the song, oftentimes too busy to listen. I never really thought about the words and how they are kind of profound.
At that point I hadn't made a real permanent move yet. Years away at school and then at least a chunk of the summer at home. Working a different job every summer to make some spending cash for the year. Trying to have fun at every chance and live life to the fullest. In some ways it hadn't yet begun, but in reality, it is continuous and had begun then and continues as we do every little thing now.
So for me this song brings back a tray in my hands, looking out over the lake at a golden sunset, the sound of laughter and chatter in the background.
